The intermedia installation, a curtain of story, sound, and senses, originally suspended in a window of the Battery of Ideas in Lowestoft, is formed from crafted and foraged natural objects. Some elements are touch-interactive, triggering sounds and speech related to the Suffolk Coast, evoking local sites and history and the future of the coastline.

New Every Morning is about transformation and renewal. Suffolk’s coastline is always changing, eroding over the centuries, forming new lagoons or cliff faces. (A process which is accelerating due to climate change, more frequent storms and sea level rise). The installation showcases the versatility of glass to represent different forms and concepts of fragility, life, decay and renewal. It repurposes copper electrical wire, glass waste and local charity shop craft materials
It reflects the joy and serendipity of discovering new finds washed up by the tide. I recorded my experience of walking along the Suffolk coastline, which varied dramatically from municipal beaches to spots where most of the visitors are birds. The result is an array of crafted artefacts, natural objects and plastic marine litter, explored through diverse materials and processes, including moulding with alginate, cast glass and copper electroforming. Four wire footprints connect to a microcontroller that senses a visitor’s touch to trigger audio compositions.
