Lockdown Walks

is an interactive artwork which celebrates some of the places I have visited over the pandemic lockdowns and consists of ink drawings and sound recordings taken on the walks.  The viewer triggers sounds by waving their hand close to, but not touching, the heaviest ink marks in the paintings.  The carbon in the ink and silver in the threads act as proximity sensors so that each drawing triggers a gentle sound from a walk when the spectator waves their hand close by – the rustle of footsteps in Autumn leaves, the squelch of mud, splash of puddles, a horse passing by, birdsong, crunchy ice and gravel.

The artwork explores the restrictions around touch which we have experienced over the Covid-19 pandemic.
