After an Art Foundation, Liz studied Art and Design in Social Contexts (Dip HE) at Dartington College of Arts, and Visual Studies/Art History (BA hons) at Oxford Poltechnic, specializing in sculpture throughout. She furthered her interest in the relationship between art and society while doing a PhD in Social Anthropology of Art at the Queen's University of Belfast, spending her research year in Jamaica. Having come late to glass, she has learnt through classes with major glass artists including Tessa Clegg, Stephen Durrow, Irene Frolic, and Clifford Rainey and benefitted from mentorship schemes with Angela Thwaites and Emma Woffenden. She is now doing a p-t PhD at  National Glass Centre, University of Sunderland.
